Spilled Toner Doesn’t Have to be a Big Mess

So, you where replacing your toner cartridge in your print with all of a sudden you make a wrong move and find yourself covered in a fine powder. What do you do? Will it stain your clothes? How do you get is off of yourself and your skin? The first to remember with toner is that you don’t want to use hot water.

Because this pigment is made with plastic, user hot water makes it soften and attached the color to fibers in fabric. So obviously, you would want to use cold water. Before you wet fabric try and shake off all the loose particles of the pigment. Then, rinse with cold water, but do NOT rub or agitate the fabric as this may further set in the stain.

If you do get the pigment on your skin, don’t worry. Just gently run cool water over the area until the stain is gone. For stubborn stains on your skin try a little mild shampoo or an exfoliating gel. If skin get’s irritated, use an anti-itch ointment. Although the color will always eventually come off of skin, once he pigment has bonded to clothing or fabric it is most likely permanent.

This is because the stain that occurs from printer pigment doesn’t occur in the normal fashion. Individual fine particles of the material bond with surface making it very difficult to separate them. If you wash stained clothing in the washing machine make sure you fill it with cold water prior to placing fabric into the appliance. For the best results, make sure you run the machine at least twice. Make sure you rinse the machine once more after washing your clothing to make sure any remaining particles are removed. Before placing clothing in a drying or using and iron make sure all of the stains are removed.
